Poetry by L. K. Redinger

For by Thee have I run through a troop
and by my God have I leaped over a wall.

PSALM 18:29

Runners and Leapers

Run the race before us set,
With patience strive each day;
For there are those we‚ve often met,
This world has drawn away.

Through a troop with God we‚ve run,
The Serpent all aghast;
Hemmed in we felt that we were done,
Our strength would never last.

But run we did with message clear,
Let other saints behold;
David's God is ever near
To energize the soul.

Runners, yes, we need them all
And leapers, too, are needed;
Folks whose faith will "scale a wall",
Their trials superceded.

Runners, leapers, are we such?
Would others call us these?
David thought it not too much
His God, His Lord to please.

Let's be runners; let‚s be leapers:
No halting must be named;
No place here for carnal sleepers,
The Christ must be proclaimed.

For The Master

(A Prayer For 2003)

Lord Jesus, take this heart of mine
And place it ever nearer Thine.

My voice and mind are yours alone,
No longer are they called my own.

My hands and feet you now possess
To seek out those in deep distress.

Should months and years I yet fulfill,
Christ's own words my mandate still.

Though loss and grief my life invade,
His grace and love will be conveyed.

Nothing

I Corinthians 2:1,2
"I KNOW NOTHING," said the great apostle to his friends,
"Except to say how well I know The Crucified;
And though my message is the kind that oft offends,
It's a fact that human wisdom never made a sinner justified."

John 15:5
"YOU CAN DO NOTHING," said the Son of God to His servants true;
"With fervour you may labour for me day and night,
But before you boast of all the deeds you daily do
'Abide in Me' only then can you do my will aright."

II Corinthians 6:10
"I HAVE NOTHING," declared the man of God to many carnal ears;
"Of goods and treasures long ago I made a clear confession.
The Son of God crucified in me selfish, fleshly jeers,
And now He alone is my chosen, prized possession."

I Corinthians 13:1-3
"I AM NOTHING," though I speak with angel tongue so clear
And faith there is to make a mountain flee;
E'en though there flow from me sweat and blood and tear,
Deeds are only right when my work and love agree."

One Day More

Dear Lord, I've come to watch and wait,
To read and pray and mediate;
I'm here to give You thanks and praise
And think upon Your holy ways.

There are some needs I have just now
And many things to do somehow,
So I'll share them one by one
And labour on past set of sun.

 I know it's best to be quiet and still
And listen for your perfect will;
I know it's true that faith must reign
And hope and love must do the same.

So I'm content to watch and wait,
To stay before You early and late;
With strength and wisdom now in store
 I will serve you ONE DAY MORE.
